Kakum National ParkKakum National Park is approximately an hour's drive Northeast of Cape Coast. Kakum is probably most well known for its canopy walkway, which is the only aerial walkway through the treetops in Africa. The walkway is made up of seven rope bridges suspended between as many viewing platforms, rising to heights of up to 150 feet over the forest floor. From this height, the view of the forest below is quite spectacular.
En route to the canopy walk, your guide (an employee of the park) will give you a brief tour of the forest, including ancient uses for its fauna. You may see trees and bushes whose bark and sap has been used for medicinal and cosmetic purposes. Longer treks on the forest floor are also available.
As for wildlife, it is fairly easy to spot butterflies and birds in the early to late morning. The mammals of the park are known to be reclusive, and monkeys are the most likely to be seen. Kakum National Park PhotosClick thumbnails to enlarge. |
